Shot Bag #45

Another finished shot bag for a customer. The bag is made from 3/4 veg. tanned leather and all hand stitched. The bag is 6 3/4" wide at the top and almost 8" at the bottom and is 6 1/2" deep. There is a small inside pocket (4" W x 3 1/2" D). The flap is held closes with a button. The strap is made from 1" hemp strapping with a iron buckle and the ends are finished up with the same leather as the bag.

Spring Turkey Season, comes to an end

The spring turkey season in Michigan is by permits only and opens in mid April and ends the last day of May. My permit was for May 5th until the end of the month, I could hunt state or private land in the upper half of the state and only private in the lower half of the state. I was able to hunt a friends place down in the lower part of the state. The first time I got out was a beautiful Thursday morning. I didn't make it out in to the woods until after the sun was up but, there was still some Toms gobbling off in the distance. I chose to hunt the edge of the woods along a newly planted corn field and my friend took to the woods. I sat just in side of the woods and made calls about every half hour or so. A few yelps just to let them know a lonely hen was around. I sat in that spot until eleven or so and only saw one bird. Fall Hunt, 2014

This past Thursday Oct.23, I had the opportunity to head to the woods and try my luck at hunting some fall turkey and squirrel.   The weather for the day was to be blue sky and lots of sunshine, in the high fifties, a great day to be in the woods. I meet up with my friend who chose to hunt the hard woods so he drove further in and I parked at the gate, I was to hunt the ridge. I parked and quickly got my kit together and picked up my fowler and headed in. After crossing what is called the sand bridge I stopped and took in the woods in its full fall color and thanked god for the day and then primed my flintlock. We were to try for turkeys until lunch time then squirrel in the late afternoon. A Time of Reflection

Another year has passed by and I am another year older. October 22nd is my birthday so I took to the woods for a little turkey hunting and some time to reflect back on the past 61 years. WOW! It was a good fall day, cool temps, some clouds but more sunshine then clouds and a little breeze made it the perfect day to be out in the woods. I found myself walking a while then finding a place to sit and making a few calls. As I sat I would drift back to different hunts some successful and some not, but no mater they were all a good time with family and friends. After a while I would move on and repeat the same thing. Later in the afternoon I met up with my hunting partner and the two of us sat against a large maple watching several squirrels working about looking for food. We talked about life in general, and the deer season to come the signs we seen while in the woods and the deer that we came across as we made our way through the woods.
